At what age should my child have their first dental visit?

A child's first dental visit should typically be  within 6 months of their first baby tooth erupting.  This usually coincides with their first birthday.

How often should I bring my child in for dental visits?

Regular dental visits should occur every 6 months for your child.  Every individual is different, so this may change for your child.  Your dentist will recommend an optimal schedule to ensure ongoing maintenance of oral hygiene and timely detection of any potential issues.

What occurs during my child's first dental visit?

Our main goal at your child's first dental visit is to establish a positive and comfortable relationship between your child and the dentist from an early age.

Some specifics that the dentist will do during your child's first visit include:

  • Carefully examine your child's mouth, teeth, and gums.
  • Demonstrate proper techniques for cleaning your child's teeth and gums effectively.
  • Discuss habits that can affect dental health, such as thumb sucking or prolonged pacifier use, and offer advice on how to minimize their impact.
  • Discuss your child's risk level for cavities and provide information for cavity prevention.  If your child's risk level for cavities is deemed high, your dentist may recommend fluoride applications to prevent tooth decay.
  • Suggest a schedule for regular dental visits tailored to your child.
